⁵¹ The Jews thus gained glory in the eyes of the king and of all his subjects in the kingdom, and they returned to Jerusalem with a great amount of spoil.

⁵² However, when King Demetrius felt secure on his royal throne and the land was peaceful under his rule, ⁵³ he broke all the promises he had made and became estranged from Jonathan. Instead of rewarding Jonathan for all the services he had rendered him, he treated him very harshly.
